Crafts come to life in this charming new campaign for MakerPlace by Michaels directed by Conor Finnegan. Working with creative agency Oberland, Nexus Studios helped celebrate the launch of Michaels’ new online marketplace for makers. In the spot, a host of handcrafted puppets, representative of the items available on MakerPlace, burst into song to cover Aretha Franklin’s anthem ‘Respect’. Conor plays with the human tendency to recognise faces in the objects which don’t actually have them – a phenomenon scientifically known as pareidolia. The puppetry is complemented by a few light 2D touches, transforming handmade crafts into a kinetic, dancing troupe of characters.
